Mission (finally) accomplished

at long, long last, we have finished the nursery. according to my husband it's the fanciest room in the house. nothing but the best baby, nothing but the best.  the whole nursery has been waiting on this one little, "easy - cheesy", diy final touch. (More on that later.)

I am absolutely obsessed with this room. The walls are a robin's egg blue and there is lots & lots of light. The furniture was given to us by dear friends and I found the rest of the stuff at the Hidden Treasure shop (as I like to now call it).

Her little clothes, bows, shoes, books, blankets, burp rags, etc have all been washed and put away.  I know there are a few more trips to Babies R Us in the near future for odds & ends...but for the mean time, we are ready for this little lady to make her debut.

So.... drum roll please..... here it is in it's finished, final, product!

for some reason, i had this crazy itch to make a mobile for the nursery. so i found a "simple, easy-afternoon, DIY craft" project on a website. ha. the website claimed you could make them for friends or baby showers or presents. well sorry friends, this will be the one & only. In fact, i'm not so sure that any future good children will be getting a home-made mobile. (we'll be hitting up fisher price for those.) there was nothing easy or simple about this silly mobile. I actually had to consult an engineer about how to get it to hang (somewhat) balanced. no joke.  i've re-made this silly thing several times, and probably sprouted a few gray hairs. finally today i finished it all up. my sweet husband said it looks like it's from pb. i don't think he was wearing his glasses, but i'll take the compliment. it's still not hung at the right height - but it's done nevertheless i like it. and if you feel differently please don't share your thoughts with me. it's more than i can take right now. (and campbell - you better like it)

ps: advice please - should I hang the mobile directly over the crib? I have this fear of it falling on her... it is home made after all. couldn't she still enjoy looking at it just at the end of the crib?

  1. It looks fabulous! Nice job on the mobile! I doubt it would fall on her, but you will have to eventually take it down b/c she'll be standing in the crib and grabbing at it:( Sad, but true.

P.S. While driving today, Arle randomly said, "I think Bessany lives over here. I need to go over to her house dis summer and see what color it is."

  2. I love it. I love that mobile. We printed the pattern for those birds & my oldest has been cutting out different fabrics for us to make some! I love it when I see things on other people's blogs that I am doing myself (maybe because that makes me feel as if I'm not [too] weird).

I say hang the mobile over the crib. Home-made is many times SAFER than store-bought anyway. At least that's what I keep telling myself when I put my kids lives in danger...hm...maybe you shouldn't listen to me.

  3. Absolutely fantastic mobile! And I say, look at the mobile from her perspective, lying down in bed. Will she have more to look at underneath the birds or looking towards the birds? Which would keep your interest longer and yeah, you'll have to move them after a few months, or one day she'll be standing up in her crib and will have pulled all your hard work down.
