{embrace} the camera

Oh Baby Bjorn how I love you.
We've rocked this puppy all over the village this week.
Remember how I "bragged" about how we were napping?
Oops...
Guess  a certain baby read my blog
and had other plans...
Today is Day 3 of a sleep strike.
Holy Sanity find me now...
I'm tired folks.
If you cut me I would bleed coffee.
Duncan Donuts coffee.
I will win, right?
I mean she's only a teeny tiny newborn, right?

8.23.2010

She rocks her skinny jeans...

because her mama can't...

Check out that teeny tiny tush.
Have you ever seen anything cuter than a baby butt in skinny jeans? I didn't think so.

Geez mom. Enough already.

PS
And yes. She is sleeping on her stomach and yes, she is too young for that.
I am sure Baby Wise or Focus on the Family or What to Expect the First Year or your mom has something to say about that. It's an experiment as she has crazy strong neck muscles. She's only doing it under my watchful eye (and my canon lens) I'll have you know this is the most restful I've ever seen her and we haven't had a battle over the swaddle or had to use the Dyson and she hasn't startled herself awake. Yet. We'll see.

PSS
Yes my living room looks like Fisher Price threw up.
It's not messy we are just stimulating a creative genius, people.

{Embrace} the Camera

When I'm old and grey, I will remember these days as the
nap strike days
When baby sleeps
baby's happy.
When baby's happy
mama's happy.
 sleep=happiness

we've turned the corner folks

Thank you iphone 4 for making {embrace} the camera so much easier
some things were just meant to go together...
no fancy lenses
no lightroom magic
just me, C and an iphone 4

TWO MONTHS?!

I know, I'm a few days late, but being a stay at home mom is a little busier than I thought. I seriously thought we'd wake up, head to starbucks and chat up the locals for a bit. Every morning. Yeah right.

It is so hard to believe that Campbell is already two months old. In so many ways it feels like just yesterday that we were meeting her for the very first time. We survived the longest pregnancy on earth - I swear I was pregnant 2 years. Honestly - it all seems so long ago. The past two months have been wonderful. We find ourselves growing every day as parents. I've decided that parenthood is one big adventure in trial and error. It definitely keeps us on our toes. We are slowly starting to get into a routine. She is becoming a wonderful napper. She currently takes 3 a day anywhere from 2 - 3 hours each. Bed time is still a struggle as we are having a hard time moving from a late afternoon/evening nap into going to bed for the evening.  She prefers to go to bed at 11:30 and wake up around 5:30 - as soon as I leave for my run in the morning - leaving her daddy to get out of bed to entertain her. (Thanks honey!)  She now weighs  9lb 12oz (25% - wahoo we hit the 20s!) We love seeing that she already has little fat rolls on her legs. WAHOO! Fatten this baby up! She got her two month shots yesterday. Holy Moses. Don't know if it was harder on her or mama. Now I see why some people don't vaccinate. Just kidding. Kind of.  Anyways - our big goal is working on sleep right now. Each day/week things seem to get a little easier and we fall into more of a routine.

Here is a mama indulged update on our little lady:
Likes:
smiling - she loves to entertain herself and others with her smile.
her mirror - you would think she was in love with herself. I think she smiles bigger at herself than her daddy or I
her stuffed octopus- LOVES this little toy- it goes with us on errands to help keep her happy. She just smiles and bats at it. It's pretty cute to watch.
car rides - she slept the ENTIRE way to Tulsa on her first road trip
baths- loves to just hang out in the water
Moving- She is such an active baby. The docs weren't kidding when at each US they would comment on how active she is. She can roll from stomach to back and from back to side. I'm pretty sure she's gifted. =)

Dislikes:
swaddling: Thanks to Happiest Baby on the Block DVD we're bringing it back in style, but she's not too happy about it. Lucky for us, when she gets done pitching her fit, she's calm as a cucumber.
naps/bed time: she's quite the social butterfly and would prefer to stay awake and hang out with us, but us mean parents make her go to bed. The nerve of some parents!

While we were in Tulsa last week, one of my best friends Carissa took some pics of her. Carissa was an incredible support through our pregnancy and kept talking about the pics she would take of Campbell Hope someday. It definitely kept that hope alive in my heart that I would have a baby to take pictures of.

PS: If you live in the Tulsa area and need a photographer - hook yourself up with Carissa. She's a natural at capturing the essence of people. Her pictures reveal their personalities and are truly beautiful (Now if you are looking for some cheesy church directory Olan Mills-esq pics - she's not for you)

Campbell Hope - you have brightened our lives and turned us into a family. Everyday I find myself thanking God for making me your mama. You have completely captured my heart. And yes. You have your daddy completely wrapped around your tiny dainty pinkie.

Apparently I'm a newbie...

aka I was a great mom until I had a baby...
As it turns out, I am quite the novice at this whole motherhood business. It's only been 8 weeks and I've made mistakes that would make you embarrassed for me.

If you would have asked me 9 months ago, I would have told you that I had this whole parenthood thing figured out. After all I've taught elementary school for 8 years. (Elementary school. Like 5-12 year olds. Not newborns.) I knew the catch phrases, read some books, subscribed to Baby Center, googled researched every question known to man,  had seen several friends parent the "right"& the "wrong" way and just knew their experience would be our education. Armchair parenting is what my friend Heather calls it - and I was a whiz at it.

Ha.

Sooooo.... guess which mama went to church last Sunday and didn't put any diapers in the diaper bag? Yep. It really happened. Then my daughter had a huge blow-out during communion (!) and I was left to search through the church nursery for diapers. LUCKILY there was one that was 4 sizes too big. Better too big than too small right? And it was such a big blow-out that I didn't have enough wipes. LUCKILY they had plenty of wipes. Oh geez. You would think I would learn. Nope. The next day I left my parents' house for a morning of errands with my mom and left my hooter hider AND any blankets (after all its 100+ degrees - who needs blankets?!) at home. Thankfully my dear friend Andrea lent me hers and I didn't have to show the world the "ladies".  Oh heavens.

And apparently you have to make babies take naps? No book I read told me that! It just said that babies sleep 14-16 hours a day. Easy right? They fall asleep if they are tired and stay awake if not...just like me. Apparently not. I knew some friends had "sleepers" (And between you and me those friends also left the hospital in their pre-prego jeans. yeah right. ) Well my child clearly wasn't ever tired because she didn't take any naps. At all. But she cried like crazy because she had colic. reflux. newborn fussiness. an immature nervous system. was over-stimulated. whatever - it wasn't because she was tired. Well I learned that you have to make them take naps.  True. You have to watch for drowsy signs after only 1-2 hours of awake time and then soothe them to sleep. Huh. Very interesting. I just thought my child wasn't a sleeper. And now that I know that...she doesn't seem that colicky any more. She's not exactly the Happiest Baby on the Block - but she is much happier.  And is getting fat rolls. The wonders of sleep. We are on day 3 in a row of her getting at least 3 naps of 2-3 hours each. (Now as soon as I say that - she will flip a switch and throw me for a loop, but I'm enjoying it as much as I can.)

clueless.

My poor baby. Luckily her daddy's a doctor - surely he has this whole parenthood business figured out, right? Ha.

Please don't tell my pediatrician....

{embrace} the Camera

The bestie edition

Campbell Hope and I are on a hometown tour this weekend.
Today we got to spend a little bit of time with one of my very best friends.
Cori.
We've been friends since we were 13 year old ankle biters.
Within just a few years we turned our moms' hair grey.

Combat-boot - wearing,  mall - shopping, movie - watching,
brownie - dough - eating, fake-language -speaking,
 tattoo getting,class skipping, spy-mission - spying,
friends.
The best kind.

We lived in our own pretend world and thought we were hilarious.
The wandas: Tu - wanda & La - wanda.
Yep - we were that cool.
Now we are mommies.

Today, we got to hear our moms discuss how "annoying" we were as teenagers.
Us? Annoying?
Not only is Cori one of my best friends,
she is Campbell's birthday buddy.
I pray Campbell will have a friend like Cori in her life.
I do NOT pray that they will turn my hair grey...

fuss bucket

It's been a rough week.

Mama's become the nap nazi.
She actually makes me lay down
in my crib
and sleep.
Ughhh.

She left me with dad one evening.
And met some friends
and had fun
without me.
Ughhhh.

She made me go to her 6 week follow up.
Ughhhh.

And
she makes me wear these ridiculous bows.
even when I cry.
So I give the extra pouty lip.

She's been reading The Happiest Baby on the Block
and Healthy Sleep Habits.
So she's always wrapping me up tightly
and running the stupid vacuum.
Ughhh.

Babies don't let your mama's read it.
They'll make you take naps...

It's gotta get better...right?
