good eats, some recipes & a super cute baby

Apparently our grocery budget has been out of hand lately. As much as I'd like to say it's because we have an extra mouth to feed, I'm pretty sure she's not eating that much. So this week I'm keeping it simple. And hopefully cheaper. I'm definitely no coupon queen. I have tons of respect for women who clip coupons, find all the great deals, go to 5 different grocery stores and buy 27 bottles of ketchup to get one free...I just am not good at it. (and I'm totally not making fun of you if you just bought 27 bottles...heck you probably found a coupon that actually PAID you to buy all 27 bottles! Impressive! Secretly I'm jealous of your mad couponing skills and the money you save. Maybe if I tried it, Mat would be so impressed with me I could keep the extra money for my non existent clothes budget...hmmmm....)

Back to the budget - totally out of hand, so this week simple and hopefully cheap.

Oh and apparently the entire produce department at WF knows my child? I was informed by not ONE but TWO produce workers last week that "We see a lot of babies in here each week.... your's is definitely a favorite." And another who was relieved to see that she had her bow back on after the bow hiatus said, "she just makes my day every week" so nice. I'm not bragging...it's just that my child likes to try to climb out of the cart each time we pass anyone in the store to get their attention. She literally squeals and squawks until they look at her and then gives them the biggest smile. I promise she gets plenty of attention at home. Really she does. (Secretly I think they remember when she was a newborn and would cry at the top of her lungs the entire time I was shopping and are just thrilled that phase is over. me too friends ME TOO.)

Monday: grilled chicken, couscous, greenbeans
Tuesday: Taco night
Wednesday: grilled cheese & tomato soup
Thursday: home made pizza, Caesar salad
Friday: ??? pasta loading with Cori in Austin!!

Last week I tried some delicious recipes from Cooking Light. If you haven't tried out their website you really should...Yummy and healthy. Two new faves at our house are Thai Chicken Salad (left out the bean sprouts because they freak me out & added extra red pepper flakes) and Spring Pappardelle (added garlic, more ricotta and next time grilled chicken). Don't be freaked out by all the herbs in it - they're good for you. Especially the parsley. Try them out and let me know what you think!

We had a great weekend enjoying the beautiful weather. I think C spent more time in her stroller enjoying the beautiful weather than she did indoors.  We had a great time playing at the park with Sarah & Luke.... and the mama's getting accosted  befriended by a mary kay sales woman.  And if you happened to be on the Kansas City Country Club golf course yesterday and heard my child wailing at the top of her lungs during my run, I'm sorry...I really am. I'm sorry if was distracting and messed up your score. (Lindsay I'm sorry also) She was NOT a happy camper with the 50 mph wind gusts. Other than that little incident, she LOVED being outside.

We also got some more baby proofing done. Mat installed cabinet door lock thingys on all the bathroom/kitchen cabinets. And thank the Lord our fire place screen came in. C was having too much fun trying to get in there before I could catch her. She may or may not have gotten some coal/ashes in her mouth. uggghhh...i know i know.

EVERYTHING goes in her mouth. Everything.

Helping daddy child proof the house.

This might be one of my new favorite pictures of them=)

See? She really does eat everything in sight.

This stage keeps us super Busy...but I am LOVING it!

  1. Nate has been OBSESSED with pulling plugs out of the wall and chewing on them lately.... Do you have any baby proofing tips for that?

  4. love the silhouette pic! what would be cute is if you did a real silhouette craft with it and framed it for mat. you just cut around their outlines and then paint the back of the cutout black. then you glue it on some white paper and bam. cute. does that make sense. i don't even know why i wrote all that out...
