Good Eats, appliance drama and a super cute tee

When it rains, it pours.
Is it just me or is it true that when one appliance goes out, they all go out?
In the past two weeks at the Good house the following have broken & or died:
garbage disposal
dishwasher
stove/oven
refrigerator
dryer
(and there was a dead chipmunk in our ac blower downstairs...still works, but just had to throw that in there...)

I wish I could say this is an excuse to buy all new stainless steel appliances, but it's just not in the cards right now. We replaced the top two and are trying our darndest to fix the others. I really don't want to replace all of our appliances...especially if we are moving next summer when Mat finishes fellowship.

So what's a couple to do? Fix 'em yourselves. (Stop laughing... I can hear you)
Mat worked a long shift this past Friday/Saturday morning - so it was up to me to resolve. Awesome. So I called up my good friend Bob Villa Erin, who built houses with me in Mexico. Friends, if you want to learn how to fix anything around your house, dry wall a basement or change the oil in your car, call this girl up. Seriously. I had her on face time on Friday and she walked me through how to fix some plumbing issues. She's a gem.
Unfortunately my house is 50 years old and my wrenches weren't big enough so I had to call a plumber after 3 hours of blood, sweat, tears and a few cuss words. So Saturday morning I put on my big girl panties contractor boots and coordinated a plumber and a dishwasher appliance delivery guy to show up at my house all before 8am. thankyouverymuch. And by 9am I had a brand new working dishwasher and a replaced water valve. And a dead chipmunk removed from our AC.
The rest of the day was spent successfully fixing our drier (good job Mat!), thawing out the freezer so that we could attempt to fix it and attempting to fix the stove. We weren't as successful with the second two and I'm currently waiting on the Sears guy to come take care of business...

On to the menu plan....
Monday: Leftover CC's chicken enchiladas
cilantro rice
(I made this recipe a few weeks ago ...
it makes a TON so I froze an entire dish for a crazy day like today...)
Tuesday: The world's best freakin' tacos.
Supposedly these are the world's best tacos?  Can't wait!
Love me some tacos!
Wednesday: Grilled Chicken, wild rice, brussel sprouts.
Thursday: TBM (tomato, basil, mozzarella) sandwiches; casear salad
*stole this one from my friend Kristin at play group last week! YUM!!

Speaking of amazing tacos, after you check out taco girl my friend Rachel's taco recipe, check out these super cute tees. She and her family are adopting. And adopting isn't free. So they are selling some cute shirts to help out the process. You should go pre order yours right now. You won't regret it.

AND Rachel (aka taco girl) has an ADORABLE etsy shop. I love it. I own the bird necklace...
two little birds sitting on a branch.
If you know our story, you know that this necklace was made for me.
She's got lots of cute stuff like that.
Go check it out.
And then make her amazing tacos...

  3. You're like Super Woman! I would have NO clue how to fix...well, pretty much anything. Way to go! And I love the bird necklace. Might just have to snag me one of those...or hint long enough to my hubby so he'll do it for me. ;)

  4. uggggggg, appliance failure. i can't believe you tried to fix them yourself! the fridge is just not worth it to me. you can get one with a ding in it at lowe's for $300...which is what you pay the freaking sears man to fix it.

  5. Those tacos do look amazing! I make some that uses raw beef and the frying cooks the meat inside...it's goes along with my life mantra "Everything fried tastes better." Here's to hoping nothing breaks for you this week! :) maren
